welcome to our space
Steve & Kim Wright have been creating music together for 15 years, and this husband & wife duo share a connection that's awesome to hear! With a musical style self-coined as "Jazz-n-Roll", a jazz approach to rock and soul music, their recorded material and live performances take you on a Jamband ride of sonic sounds and emotions as the two weave in-and-out of Soul, Rock, and Jazz seamlessly.
DaysAhead has co-billed with some of the best in the business including Chaka Khan, Al Green, Gnarls Barkley, The Brand New Heavies, and many more.
Steve and Kim's courage and comfort to ‘leap without looking’ is refreshing and “revises the spirit of the golden era of bands from the 70's & 80’s" (Michael Heyliger, Rhythmflow). The release of their 2005 debut cd Turning Point garnered rave reviews, national and international radio play, as well as award recognitions. As one reviewer puts it, “The compelling voice of Kim Wright and energetic artistry of guitarist Steve Wright (is) a near perfect marriage artistically” (Rob Young, Contemporary Jazz Magazine).
Nominated as Best Duo/Group of the year by SoulTracks Readers’ Choice Awards and Best Band & Best Album of the year by RockWired Awards, and landing at #4 and #5 on CMJ Jazz charts and #12 on JamBand charts, DaysAhead has performed their music in the USA, countries of the EU including the UK, as well as in Zimbabwe, Africa at venues such as the Intwasa Arts Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, NewYork Harborfest, Capital Jazz Festival, Bay Fest, Atlanta Jazz Festival, Capital Jazz Supercruise (Bermuda), The Velvet Note, Apache Cafe', Churchill Grounds, and 606 Club London. The band has also been featured performing live on broadcast networks including ZBC Zimbabwe TV, BET Jazz Soul Sessions, CBS Better Mornings, and TBS Storyline Soundstage.
Kim Wright’s smokey and powerfully ripping Louisiana drenched soul-jazz vocals and lyrics mixed with the texture, imagination and striking soaring riffs of Virginia-born guitarist/composer Steve Wright are exciting to hear and captivating to watch. The beauty and strength of the duo is their ability to leap musical landscapes from gospel to soul to jazz to rock in a seconds notice and nod to folk and reggae, on a visceral yet cerebral musical playground, while stretching and twisting the songs into their special arrangements of meter changes, extended forms and improvisation, all while maintaining the groove.
It is Steve & Kim's ambition to spread their music around the globe as performing-teaching musicians emphasizing improvisation and expressive freedoms.
DaysAhead’s debut CD can be purchased here on their website, or via iTunes, Amazon, and Spotify.
